The question I would ask is what do you want to get out of the software. Since you’re a beginner and every piece of software provides you with more than enough bells and whistles to get you started, think about where you want to go. What are the things that interest you? Effects, samples, scratching, etc are all things done better by one program than others. What do you want to learn?
Marco SoloParticipantOn the other hand, bringing a performance like Dada Life is pretty friggin’ awesome. But by all means, learn to walk before you can run. Learn the basics before you think about these details or you’ll drown in a sea of confusion. Picking the right tracks, reading the crowd and reacting to them is hard enough without the flashy stuff.
Marco SoloParticipantIt’s simply, with the money that any beats product costs, you can get a better quality product from another company somewhere. But in the end it’s your money.
Marco SoloParticipantAre your devices both only assigned to their own port instead of all ports? Go to the controller manager and check the in and out port of the mappings. Make sure it doesn’t say “all ports”.
Marco SoloParticipantI play out with somebody too, it works perfectly on just one controller. No need for two laptops and a ddj-sz. Just give eachother space and NEVER press que when the other guy is playing. My partner in crime found this out the hard way last weekend xD
Marco SoloParticipantOr we could convince our generation to stop listening to music over 80 deci… nah I’ll go with the earplugs.
Marco SoloParticipantWhy would you do that?
Marco SoloParticipantI’ve seen an s4 mk1 that was less than two years old once and it scared me how worn it was. Especially the small, round buttons die quite easily. Most of the deck controls were unresponsive as well. Pretty lame for such an expensive piece of kit.
Marco SoloParticipantThere are cooling devices on the market for laptops although these are simply large fans on the bottom of the laptop. So it’s not that efficient in a hot environment.
Marco SoloParticipantAs far as I know there is no possibility to connect a controller to an android device although mixvibes seems to be working on such a feature. Currently you can hook your Android device up to a mixer, but that’s it and seems kind of pointless to me.
Marco SoloParticipantIf Traktor is so buggy then howcome I’ve used it for numerous live gigs and at home with different varieties of gear without any problem whatsoever? I’d say it’s a classic case of PEBKAC.
Marco SoloParticipantYou can choose the controller via the audio routing menu in Traktor. You’ll need a mapping for the Mixtrack Quad in order to use it, check out Numark’s website, djtechtools or the traktor bible website for a mapping. You can also make your own, but that will take a lot longer than simply starting with one and changing it to your preferences.
Marco SoloParticipantIt’s working! I tried with Cross and Traktor as both my controllers are for Serato originally, so connecting both just achieves in Serato claiming them without any options. But the Mixtrack Quad is not Serato certified, so this test may still be valid.
What I did was connect one controller, started Traktor, set it up, then connect the other, start Cross and set that one up. If it doesn’t work try it the other way around, I might be mistaken as I did it yesterday. Also be aware that you might need to increase your buffer size which increases your latency. Don’t try it for the first time when it’s live!
Marco SoloParticipantI use a pair of alpine plugs intended for use on motorcycles. The reason I have those is because I, you guessed it, also own a motorcycle. They fit perfectly under my headphones but they do take away some of the dynamic range.
Marco SoloParticipantYou can check the temperatures on you computer by using software like coretemp or speedfan. If your computer gets too hot it usually is just a matter of clearing the vents from any dust.
